ALTINAY’s Rocket Motor Segmenting system presented at the 20th Annual Global Demilitarization Symposium

The Rocket Motor Segmenting system, fully designed, built and installed by the Demilitarization Solutions Team at ALTINAY will be an integral part of the Letterkenny Munitions Center (LEMC) and will support the Ammonium Perchlorate Rocket Motor Destruction ( ARMD) Capability.

ALTINAY’s Rocket Motor Segmenting system was featured in Mr Jeff Wright’s presentation at the 20th Annual Global Demilitarization Symposium on December 8-9, 2015. The Symposium was organized by the U.S. Defense Technical Information Center http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/

ALTINAY Demilitarization Solutions cooperated with an elite team that included AMCOM, AMRDEC, LEMC, US Army Corps of Engineers, LEAD, ECC and EDE.

ARMD plant designed to process 10,000 rocket motors annually. The plant:

  • Provides conditions for complete combustion
  • Collects particulate matter and treats hydrochloric acid (HCl)
  • Has Thermal Treatment Chamber dimensions of ~19 ft. Diameter by ~115 ft. long
  • Is designed to process full-up rocket motors up to 680 lbs net explosive weight (NEW) and motor segments up to 800 lbs (NEW) with ALTINAY’s Rocket Motor Segmenting system
  • Has flexibility to address ~28 different rocket motor systems.

The Water-Cooled Band Saw in the Rocket Motor Segmenting system is developed in order to downsize large motors. The largest segment that will be handled by the Rocket Motor Segmenting system for TTC is 805 pounds net explosive weight.

The system has completed factory acceptance and is scheduled for final testing in early 2016.
